Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced plans to implement mandatory biometric collection for all citizenship applications beginning in 2026–2027. This policy change will require fingerprints and facial recognition data from citizenship applicants as part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen identity verification and reduce fraud. Unlike current practices where biometrics are only occasionally requested for security purposes, the new requirement will standardize the process across all applications, bringing citizenship procedures in line with other immigration streams that already utilize biometric verification.
